The Best Lip Balm Recipe for Dry, Cracked Lips

Dec 16, 2023

This is my absolute favorite lip balm! It's soft, smells nice, soothes my dry lips in the winter and is really easy to make. If you're new to making body products, this recipe is perfect for you. It doesn't require purchasing a lot of obscure ingredients or any equipment, and makes a great addition to a gift or party favor.

My Absolute Favorite Lip Balm Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 26g beeswax
  • 26g sunflower oil (or almond oil)
  • 26g coconut oil
  • 8g lanolin
  • 1g castor oil
  • .1g vitamin E
  • 16 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 2 drops rosemary extract

Steps:

  1. Melt 26g beeswax in a double boiler on low heat. (See video above for instructions on how to make a double boiler.)
  2. Once wax is melted, add the oils (except essential oils and vitamin E) and keep on heat until fully melted.
  3. Remove oils and wax from . Add vitamin E and essential oils once wax and oils are 170F or cooler. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour into containers.
  5. Add cap once hardened.

Tips

Do not add essential oils to wax/oil mixture if the temperature is over 170F or the scent will dissipate.

Make sure you use essential oils that are safe for use on your skin and for consumption.

3 Ingredient Lip Balm Recipe

This recipe also makes a great lip balm. It calls for just 26g of beeswax, 26g almond oil (or sunflower oil) and 26g of coconut oil. Most grocery stores have coconut oil and sunflower oil in stock, so if you're a beekeeper with some wax lying around, you can try this recipe today!

The vitamin E is an optional ingredient that extends the shelf life of your lip balm.

Essential oils add a scent and flavor to the lip balm that is also completely optional (but something I have found people enjoy).

Lip Balm Containers

You have a few of options for containers to put your lip balm in. I prefer the tubes. They hold .15oz and are more sanitary than the jars or tins that require you to put your finger in it to apply. The tubes are also easy to label. However, if you already have 1oz honey jars or old lip balm tins lying around, you can boil and reuse them.

Lip Balm Labels

I designed a lip balm label for you! Click here to download the files.

I highly recommend the label paper at onlinelabels.com.

Or you can send them your file and they will print it on the paper for you.

Did You Know

I always referred to lip balm as chapstick® (and still do), but chapstick® is a registered trademark, so if you're going to sell these, make sure you call it lip balm :)
